NJ Alternate Route Teachers Talk Special Education on Twitter
New teachers of mainstreamed special education students often find themselves at a loss while trying to meet their unique learning needs. Challenges for teachers range from helping them stay focused, making accommodations as required, and encouraging pro-social behaviors, all while ensuring that the learning objectives for the their general education students are also met. They know know they must create an inclusive environment for students with learning disabilities, and they must create opportunities for their special education students to succeed.
That’s why many of them are turning to colleagues on social media to identify resources that will support their efforts in meeting the needs of students with learning disabilities. Recently, alternate route candidates on track to become certified general education teachers engaged in a Twitter chat on advancing inclusion in the classroom.
