We are proud and excited to announce that Rutgers Center for Effective School Practices, a unit of the Graduate School of Education, and the Department of Computer Science, within of the School of Arts and Sciences, have been awarded the NJ CS Professional Learning Hub grant by the Department of Education. Starting this summer, the Rutgers Computer Science Education (RU-CSE) Hub will provide sustained, high-quality professional learning opportunities for school leaders and computer science teachers to school districts across the state.

The goal of such professional learning is to improve student learning, achievement, and engagement in computer science education, with an intentional focus on reaching students from populations that are typically underrepresented in the field. Those participating in the RU-CSE hub will also participate in a Community of Practice to build and strengthen relationships and connections for CS educators.

We would also like to extend a congratulations to our sister hubs from Fairleigh Dickinson University and Kean University and look forward to collaborations on this and future projects, as well as our gratitude to the team at CS4NJ.

This 17-month project will begin soon with initial calls to partner districts, reaching out to additional districts, and conducting a needs assessment to inform professional learning. The first sessions will occur in summer 2021!
